Here you can see the starting process of creating my contents page. I have roughly marked out where I am planning on putting my images and my subheadings so that it makes it easier to work out the proportions of the writing and sell lines included.
So far I like my contents page because I feel it looks a lot more professional than how my front cover is turning out to look. I am very happy with how my masthead has turned out because I love the fact that the red is the main focus. When doing research, I gathered that a lot of magazines tend to have a different coloured logo to fit in with the colour scheme of the contents page. Therefore, I decided to try this out because I didn't want my logo on the masthead to be red, blending in with the background. I tried out different colours with the masthead, but I came to the conclusion that red looks the best and I wanted to keep the theme of red throughout. However, I faced the problem with the logo and the masthead being the same colour. At this moment, I went ahead with changing the colour of the logo because I felt it would look a lot better than blending in and the reader not being able to see it, which would be a massive problem.
To avoid this, I began to browse through colour options but quickly realising that white is the best colour to contrast with red. I changed the colour of my logo to white and I thought it looked very professional next to the white as well as standing out a lot more. This was in a small font compared to the word, 'CONTENTS' which took up 3/4 of the masthead and was in black and bold. I loved my three house colours on the masthead, as they all help each other stand out but work together well, to me. I have completed the 'EVERY MONTH' section, adding exciting and addictive features such as a competition and a POP quiz. I have also added subscription and the Brit Hits website to take up every possible opportunity to aim at the target audience so they know exactly where to buy music etc.
Becuase I applied a grey background on my front cover, I thought to make this tie in with the rest of the magazine I'd put the subheadings, 'FEATURED', 'REGULARS', 'REVIEWS' and 'EVERY MONTH', in white contrasting with a deep grey box they were in. I personally love this idea because I think I'd be too much red for the reader if the background colour of the subheadings were in red too.
I added black page numbers in the corner of the outline of where I am hoping to place my contents page images. The black, a deeper colour of grey, fits in with the colour scheme and looks conventional as I have browsed through different magazines page numbers looking similar to the ones I created. The white font works well with the images and becomes more apparent to the reader, allowing them to find page numbers easily. The colour of this is also stylish and fits in with the magazine house colours.
I have also added my 'BRIT HITS INTERVIEW' contents image. I loved this image because of the way he's looking into the camera, connecting with the reader. I purposely made this image larger than what I am going to make the other images because I wanted it to be the main point of focus. I have edited the image, making it look more appealing and eye catching in order for people to be more interested.
Plans I have to help make the contents page look more attractive are:
1. Adding red lines like the ones on my front cover to separate information and make it appear neater.
2. I am also wanting to add catchy and clever statements underneath each subhead in a writing style that my target audience would appreciate. I am going to write informally because I don't want the readers feeling like they are reading something that they'd read in school which is very formal and boring. Instead, I wanted something captivating and interesting that they can relax and read because it's written in the style that they'd speak.
3. Edit the contents images to make them look more attractive for the readers.
